GSAS Alumni Career Contacts
The GSAS Alumni Career Contacts initiative fosters meaningful connections between our accomplished GSAS alumni and current students. The program offers current GSAS master's students the opportunity to connect with GSAS alumni for informational interviews about career-related topics.
Master's students who participate gain access to a network of GSAS graduates for industry-specific career advice, feedback on résumés and cover letters, and advice about navigating the job search after graduate school. Current GSAS MA students may participate at any time. See the directory of Alumni Career Contacts.
Alumni volunteers who participate in the program have the opportunity to help shape the career paths of GSAS students. By sharing your professional experiences, insights, and advice, you can help master's students navigate their futures with confidence and clarity. If you are interested in serving, please complete this brief Alumni Career Contacts registration form.
How to Meet with GSAS Alumni
Students receive the contact information for one alumni participant after meeting with a GSAS Compass career advisor. Students may then write to the Alumni Career Contact directly to request an informational interview (also known as a coffee chat). Topics you might discuss in your informational interview may include:
- The alum's career path, their current job, and any previous jobs
- Emerging trends in their organization, industry, or field
- Skills they have developed and currently use in their job
- How to tailor your résumé, cover letter, or prepare for an interview in a specific sector or organization
- How to navigate the US job search as an international student or how to search for a role as an experienced candidate or career changer
Students may request contact information for up to three different Alumni Career Contacts. Alumni can expect no more than two informational interview requests per month.
