On Friday, September 19, Columbia University will celebrate World (Bone) Marrow Donor Day, an annual global observance held every September to thank and celebrate voluntary blood stem cell and marrow donors. The day also raises awareness about the importance of registering as a donor for patients battling blood cancers and other serious diseases, highlighting how transplants provide a life-saving second chance. It is an initiative of the World Marrow Donor Association (WMDA).
As one of the world’s leading medical research institutions, Columbia University is leading the effort to ensure an expansion of the worldwide registry and continuing work on possible cures for blood cancer.
Two donors recruited from our April 2025 campus recruitment drive were found to be matches for patients suffering with blood disorders!
