Join us to experiment, break things, and imagine new possibilities. Data Club meetings are meetings, not workshops. An introduction to a bit of software is followed by opportunities to try the software in your own environment and on your own terms.
Many research projects involve repetitive data tasks—such as importing multiple files, creating similar plots, recoding multiple variables, or running related models. These tasks often lead to a lot of copying and pasting, which can be frustrating and hard to maintain.
In this workshop, we will look at a small set of concrete examples showing how R can be used to handle repetition in different situations. The goal is not to cover everything or to master new techniques, but to become familiar with some common ideas and functions that may be useful in your own work.

Data Club meetings occur six times a semester. Open to everyone in the Columbia community, these informal events typically start with a presentation on a specific use of data in Python, R, Julia, or JavaScript, then open up to questions, collaborative work, and discussion. Computation typically occurs within an online notebook workflow, and participants of all skill levels are welcome.
