Public Astronomy Night

April 10, 2026
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
America/New_York
Pupin Hall, 538 W. 120 St., New York, NY 10027 301

Join us in Pupin Hall on Friday April 10 at 7pm in Pupin 301 for a talk by postdoc Dr. Matthew Lundy on cosmic rays.

Title: How to find the most energetic place in the galaxy

Abstract: For over 100 years astronomers and particle physicists have been trying to uncover the origin of a mysterious stream of super energetic particles flowing in from space. These "cosmic rays" still hold many puzzles, but the most startling is that we still don't know where they come from! In this talk, we will take a tour through some of the most energetic places in the galaxy, from exploding stars to black holes, and see how we can use a wide variety of some of the largest telescopes in the world to make some important breakthroughs.

We'll start the evening at 7pm with some astronomy trivia, followed by Matthew's talk and Q&A. From 8:10-9:10pm, we will be outside observing on campus (weather permitting).

If you do not have a CUID or would like to bring someone who doesn’t have one, please follow the instructions and register here: https://tinyurl.com/5t2k42ku by April 8 midnight.
