Query with Confidence: SQL for Beginners

October 10, 2025
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
America/New_York
Butler Library, 535 W. 114 St., New York, NY 10027 208B

Behind almost every app, website, academic database, and social media profile is a database. In this hands-on and interactive workshop, we’ll explore the most common database structure, the relational database, and learn how we get information out of them using the SQL language. We’ll write queries that help you merge information from different tables to ask new and different questions.

By the end of this workshop, you’ll understand how SQL works and why it’s still the most popular database language. You’ll also be a better searcher, whether you’re in a library database or a spreadsheet. Finally, you’ll leave with ways you can keep practicing SQL on your own.

Attendees are encouraged, but not required, to bring a laptop.
