Cost of Attendance

When making your financial plans, it is necessary to consider tuition and fees as well as living expenses in estimating the overall cost of attendance. 

The following is the estimated cost of attendance for the 2026-2027 academic year. All figures are estimated until final tuition and fees are approved by the University Trustees in June.

Current students: Tuition for Summer 2026 is assessed according to the 2025-26 cost of attendance information available here.

2026-27 Estimated Cost of Attendance

MA Programs (Full Time)

Below are estimated cost of attendance rates for students enrolled in the Residence Unit* enrollment category.

*Master's students must complete a total of 2 Residence Units to satisfy degree requirements.

The indirect expenses are estimated based upon reasonable expenditures over the 9-month 2026-2027 academic year. Students may incur additional expenses that are not covered by the standard COA, such as the purchase of a computer, medical expenses not covered by insurance, conference expenses, etc.

For cost of attendance information for the International and World History (London) and Japanese Pedagogy programs, please view the "Special Programs" tab. 

Students who register for more than 20 points will be charged $2,466 per point, for each point beyond 20 points in addition to the tuition amount listed above.

MA Programs (Half Time)

Below are estimated cost of attendance rates for students enrolled in the Half Residence Unit* enrollment category.

*Master's students must complete 2 Residence Units to satisfy degree requirements.

The indirect expenses are estimated based upon reasonable expenditures over the 9-month 2026-2027 academic year. Students may incur additional expenses that are not covered by the standard COA, such as the purchase of a computer, medical expenses not covered by insurance, conference expenses, etc.

MA Programs (Part Time)

Below are estimated cost of attendance rates for students enrolled in the Quarter Residence Unit* enrollment category.

*Master's students must complete a total of 2 Residence Units to satisfy degree requirements.

The indirect expenses are estimated based upon reasonable expenditures over the 9-month 2026-2027 academic year. Students may incur additional expenses that are not covered by the standard COA, such as the purchase of a computer, medical expenses not covered by insurance, conference expenses, etc.

**Students who are enrolled in 6 credits, regardless of registration category, will automatically be enrolled in University health insurance (Fall, $2,248; Spring, $3,655). Insurance may be waived if student has comparable coverage.

Special Programs

International and World History (London)

In the first year of the program at Columbia, students will be charged the tuition rates listed above in the "All Other Master's Programs" section.

In the second year of the program at the London School of Economics, students will be charged LSE tuition rates.

Summer MA Program in Japanese Pedagogy

Extended Residence

Note on Extended Residence Registration

Below are estimated cost of attendance rates for students enrolled in the Extended Residence enrollment category.

The Extended Residence registration category is a full-time equivalency intended only to be utilized by students who have already completed the Residence Unit requirement (ex., 2 Residence Units for completion of an MA degree) but remain enrolled to complete other degree requirements, such as a thesis.
